What this tool shows

  • Public IP address: the address websites see when you connect.
  • IPv4 and IPv6: we test each separately using dedicated single-protocol hostnames. If one says Not detected, your connection doesn’t use that protocol, or a VPN blocks it.
  • Approximate location: country, region and city from the free DB-IP Lite database.
  • ASN and network: the autonomous system that announces your address, usually your ISP, mobile carrier, hosting company or VPN provider.

Checking your VPN

  1. Note your IP and network with the VPN off.
  2. Connect the VPN and click Check again.
  3. The IP and network should now belong to the VPN provider. If you still see your ISP on IPv6 while IPv4 changed, your VPN may not be tunnelling IPv6. That’s a common leak. Disable IPv6 or enable the provider’s IPv6 leak protection.

Then run the DNS leak test and the WebRTC leak test.

Limitations

  • Geolocation is an estimate and can be wrong by hundreds of kilometres.
  • Carrier-grade NAT means many customers may share one public IPv4 address.
  • Corporate proxies and some privacy browsers show the proxy’s address.

Data sources and privacy

Location data: DB-IP Lite (CC BY 4.0). ASN data: RouteViews and DB-IP via the ip-location-db project. Lookups run on our own server. Your IP is never sent to a third-party API. See our privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the location wrong?

IP geolocation is approximate. Databases map address blocks to places, often the ISP's regional hub rather than your home. Mobile and VPN addresses are frequently placed in another city or country.

Do you store my IP address?

No. Our server reads your address to answer the request and looks it up in a local database. We do not write IP addresses to logs or share them with any third party.
